DIAZOMA’s development proposal for Central Macedonia: the “Alexandros (Alexander the Great)” Cultural Route

We are delighted to share with you DIAZOMA’s latest project, the “Alexandros (Alexander the Great) Cultural Route of Central Macedonia.” DIAZOMA Association colleagues have collaborated to create a proposal that crystalizes DIAZOMA’s intellectual capital and explains the methodological tool proposed by DIAZOMA for the effective construction of an innovative Cultural Route in the Region of Central Macedonia. The document was drafted by DIAZOMA archaeologists Ms. Maria Sofikitou and Ms. Maria Kourasani.

The “Alexandros (Alexander the Great)” Cultural Route is a preliminary study-masterplan for the design of a branded and holistic development programme in the Region of Central Macedonia via a Cultural Route focusing on the archaeological sites-ancient cities connected with the life of Alexander the Great in Central Macedonia.

The proposal was based on extensive literature research and fully utilized the Association’s know-how. Its vision is to enhance and promote the singular capital at the disposal of Central Macedonia and skillfully “merge” the Region’s cultural monuments, history, landscape, rare ecosystems, folklore, rich gastronomy, as well as its significant contemporary production and creative output.

The Route aims to upgrade the quality of the Region’s tourism product, offer visitors engaging experiences, encourage the development of new technologies, the strengthening and creation of dynamic enterprises, and the production and promotion of its exceptional local products.

Utilizing the “magic of synergies” and the new NSRF funds, the natural and cultural monuments of the Region of Central Macedonia which form the heart of this project will be brought to the center of everyday life and operate as a vehicle for the prosperity and sustainable development of the entire Region.
